There is a massive need to make swimming teaching in the UK effective and simple to deliver in an industry where training depends on the knowledge, experience and ability of the tutor, where CPD is often basic or irrelevant and where available resources, advice, information, theory and hype is contradictory and makes it difficult to know where to start.
Much information exists as an income generator to the determent of the most important people, the pupils. Moreover, there is little or no guidance on what works and what does not, what is right or wrong or whether it is relevant, accurate or appropriate to your situation.
This is quite often because the authors of the material may never actually taught swimming or have been away from the sharp end for so long that they are no longer aware of what works and what does not. For them it has become a theoretical exercise at the expense of the pupils.
This is not to say that there are not good teachers out there, nor is it true that all programmes are poor. On the contrary, there are many dedicated and competent teachers, and some really successful programmes.
On the other hand there are those who just follow the pack, have never given real thought to what there are teaching and who simply teach pupils to pass awards.
There are programmes that are based on passing an award rather than teaching to swim, that simply do not deliver, are based on flimsy educational principals, narrow in content, not dynamic or reviewable or are just schemes of work.
Swimming Tutor is independent, has no axe to grind or hidden agenda. It simply aims to assist you in providing the best teaching you can and in doing so, put you out there as a role model with expertise that can increase your teaching enjoyment and earning potential.
